Gardy Dorneval, also known as Mr. D, is a dedicated educator, school leader, and proud product of Boston Public Schools. A graduate of Charlestown High School, he continued his education at Boston College, where he strengthened his passion for education, leadership, and service to his community.
Gardy believes deeply in the power of representation and the importance of strong, authentic relationships. He is committed to being a positive and visible role model for students, particularly those who benefit from seeing leaders who reflect their experiences and communities. His leadership is grounded in the belief that every student deserves to feel seen, valued, supported, and empowered to reach their full potential.
Since joining the Holmes Innovation School community, Mr. D has consistently placed students and families at the center of his work. As Assistant Principal and Director of Operations, he plays a critical role in strengthening school culture, improving student attendance, supporting educators, and building systems that allow students and staff to thrive. His leadership and commitment to attendance have contributed to significant reductions in chronic absenteeism, which is currently at an all-time low at Holmes Innovation School.
An avid chess player, Mr. D brings strategic thinking, patience, and problem-solving to his leadership. His approach is rooted in relationships, consistency, high expectations, and a willingness to serve wherever needed. After more than a decade at the Holmes, Gardy Dorneval remains deeply committed to creating a genuine sense of belonging and ensuring every scholar has the opportunities, support, and meaningful experiences needed to succeed in school and beyond.
