If we promote it now, that will give folks time to figure out if this incentive makes it financially possible for them to upgrade their heating systems this summer so they can reduce their energy costs next winter.

Upgrade Your Aging Heating Equipment
Do you heat with forced hot air? Is your furnace older than 11 years?
Do you heat with forced hot water or steam? Is your boiler older than 29 years?
If you answered “yes” to either of these questions, the Early Furnace Replacement Rebate or the Early Boiler Replacement Rebate from Mass Save can help you to proactively upgrade your heating system! One way to help offset the rising cost of energy and significantly reduce heating costs is to replace your aging heating equipment with a new high-efficiency unit.
Viki Bok, a Jamaica Plain resident and landlord, has seen big savings from replacing old heaters with high efficiency models. “In our unit we replaced our huge old gas system with a smaller, new high-efficiency gas system. We were able to get a much smaller unit because we had insulated. The old system felt like it was either on full-blast or completely off, making us feel too hot one minute, then too cold the next. We now feel much more comfortable, and are using about half the energy we did before.” Viki also upgraded the oil-fired boiler in her tenant’s apartment. “We have cut oil use in that unit by a third or so, again through a combination of the heating system upgrade and better insulation.”
For the first time, Mass Save is offering an Early Furnace Replacement rebate. Incentives range from $750 to $1,000 when you upgrade to a high-efficiency system. The Early Boiler Replacement Rebate ranges from $1,750 -$4,000, depending on several factors.
You may also be eligible for 0% financing through the Mass Save HEAT Loan Program. The HEAT Loan Program provides customers the opportunity to apply for a 0% interest loan from participating lenders to assist with the installation of qualified energy efficient improvements in their homes. If you meet eligibility requirements and receive lender approval, you may receive a 0% interest loan of $500 to $25,000 over 2–7 years for energy saving upgrades, such as a new furnace or boiler.
Contact Renew Boston at 617-635-SAVE (7283) or Mass Save at 800-480-7472 to schedule your Early Boiler or Early Furnace Replacement site visit. Customers must have a Home Energy Assessment (or a Site Visit if they’ve recently had a Home Energy Assessment) by September 30, 2014, in order to be eligible. You must complete the installation process and submit the Rebate Form and other required documentation postmarked no later than October 31, 2014 to receive the rebate.
To be eligible for this incentive, your furnace or boiler must be functional. Fuel switching is NOT eligible for this rebate. Be sure to plan ahead to make sure you meet the installation and documentation deadline. There will be no extensions for work completed or forms submitted after October 31, 2014.
